Embark on a unique 4-night cruise aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, a majestic, recently renovated four-masted sailing yacht, sailing from Tenerife to Funchal on the island of Madeira, passing by the Savage Islands. This experience combines the thrill of traditional sailing with the discovery of two Atlantic destinations full of history, culture and breathtaking volcanic landscapes.
Before setting sail, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. You can explore the historic streets of Santa Cruz, stroll around San Cristóbal de La Laguna - declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site - or venture along the volcanic trails of the Teide National Park, home to Spain's highest peak. Tenerife will surprise you with its mix of African, Spanish and Latin American influences, its cuisine of wrinkled potatoes with mojo and gofio, and its black volcanic sand beaches.
The crossing is directed against the prevailing wind, which means you'll encounter a little more resistance from the swell and currents, offering a more challenging and authentic sailing experience. During the days at sea, you'll be able to participate in on-deck activities such as knot tying lessons, learn new sailing skills alongside a qualified crew and share stories with fellow travellers. Weather permitting, you'll have the opportunity to climb the mast or relax on the bowsprit, enjoying unparalleled views of the Atlantic. In the evening, there's nothing better than a cocktail on deck watching the sun set over the ocean.
The weather conditions forecast for December are mild, with daytime temperatures between 18 and 24°C and night temperatures between 15 and 19°C. The weather will be mostly dry, with partly cloudy to clear skies and good visibility, although brief showers may occur near Madeira.
As you approach Madeira's capital Funchal, you will be greeted by spectacular views of the island's volcanic landscapes in the winter sunshine. Funchal offers a perfect blend of maritime beauty, rich culture and incredible gastronomy. Stroll through its cobbled streets, visit the vibrant Mercado dos Lavradores with its exotic fruits and famous black swordfish, taste the traditional bolo do caco and, of course, savour a glass of the world-famous Madeira wine. Funchal's 15th century cathedral and the colourful murals of the old town complete an unforgettable cultural experience.
This voyage is designed for travellers aged between 14 and 80 who are looking for an authentic sailing experience on a historic ship, where connecting with the sea, socialising with fellow passengers and crew, and discovering unique Atlantic destinations combine to create memories to last a lifetime. All meals on board are included - breakfast, lunch and dinner - as well as refreshments throughout the day, use of safety equipment, instructions from qualified crew and liability insurance. Don't miss this opportunity to sail on one of the most emblematic sailing yachts in the Atlantic.
